Corrales Historical Society “Festival of the Nativities”
December 15 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
One event on December 16, 2018 at 10:00am
Free and Open to the Public
The Festival of the Nativities held last December was a huge success. People came from far and wide to see the amazing display of nativities. So once again, Corrales Historical Society is hosting this exciting event for the Holiday Season. Please join us at the Festival of the Nativities on December 15 and 16, 2018 at Historic Old San Ysidro Church from 10:00am to 4:00pm both days. There will be close to 150 special nativities, also called crèches, from around the world. One visitor last year said, “I thought I’d be there for 20 minutes and I spent two hours looking at the amazing variations and detail in these incredible works of art.” From the tiniest crèche (last year one fit into a nutshell) to the biggest, all will be beautifully displayed in the Old Church, festively decorated with greens, trees and poinsettias to brighten your visit.
Nativities vary the world over reflecting the traditions, culture, interpretations and style of the people building the scenes. They can be reverent or comical, amusing or serious, representational or abstracted, and reflect a local cultural view, a particular time period or place.
Susan Cahill, CHS President says, “This event is a gift to our community from the Historical Society and will allow us all to share how other people and cultures honor the Christmas story.” Holiday music and light refreshments will add to the festive atmosphere.
Corrales Historical Society invites you to come and share in this delightful aspect of our winter traditions. Leave your shopping, wrapping, cooking and decorating for a few hours and enjoy the Peace of the Season at Historic Old San Ysidro Church. This event is free but donations are welcome. All monies go to preservation and maintenance of the Old Church.
Poinsettias from ARCA will be available for sale at the Festival of the Nativities. They are $10.00 each for six-inch potted plants. All proceeds go to preservation and maintenance of Historic Old San Ysidro Church. If you would like to pre-order, please contact Ellen Hatala at firstname.lastname@example.org or 505-205-9180.
